Clinical Academic Centre of Porto (CAC-Porto) is constituted by a renowned institution of higher education, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP) and by the largest hospital in Northern Portugal, standing out for its medical assistance activity - Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de S. João (CHUSJ). The vision and goals of this academic clinic center are aligned with the most relevant global and national strategic plans currently defining short and long-term developments in health and healthcare technology, innovation and science in Portugal and worldwide.

FMUP is a recognized institution of Higher Education, standing out for its teaching, scientific research activity and symbiotic connection to health institutions. FMUP also benefits from the integration of two R&D Units – CINTESIS and UnIC –, from its proximity and scientific collaboration with i3S and, above all, from hosting an Associated Laboratory with unique characteristics – RISE. In addition, FMUP researchers participate in the activities of another 16 R&D units.

Based on three main axes, namely research, clinical teaching and clinical assistance, CAC-Porto reinforces the already existing partnership between FMUP and CHUSJ, constituting a structure that is responsible for promoting the development of the university dimension and the qualification of clinical practice, the modernization of research, the innovation and reinforcement of medical education in pre and postgraduate courses, as well as the rationalisation of human and material resources.
